An Attractive Employer As a reputable energy company with long term, worldwide agreements, RasGas recognises that its continued success and long term expansion plans depend on its ability to attract and retain a qualified workforce. With increased competition for talent in the market, the company has put together a team of qualified recruiters. The development of effective strategies to meet RasGas’ staffing needs and the design of competitive compensation packages for prospective employees will position RasGas as the employer of choice. In 2006, RasGas initiated a major redesign of its employee development process to optimise the company’s strongest asset, its employees. The Employee Development Project (EDP) uses a skills and competency framework to identify the requirements necessary for effective job performance for every position in the company. To assist with employee retention and job satisfaction it also includes: - Personal career development plans
- Succession planning
- An integrated approach to performance appraisals and career development
This pacesetting programme will position RasGas as an attractive employer, where employees are not limited to their original position but can widen the scope of their career.
The University Advisory Committee (UAC) is a part of the RasGas strategy to reach its Qatarization targets and meet its recruitment needs. The UAC is the focal point of contact between RasGas and higher education institutions in Qatar, such as the Supreme Educational Council, the University of Qatar, the Science and Technology Park and the many universities within Qatar’s Education City. The UAC plays a key role in the RasGas summer internship programme, first launched in 2006, providing students with relevant work experience throughout the company. Summer internships also provide a perfect opportunity for RasGas to pre-screen potential employees. Through the UAC, there is a continuous RasGas presence on all Qatar campuses with active participation at major educational and recruitment events. During 2006 RasGas participated in: - The Qatar Petroleum Career Fair, which attracted more than 2,000 students over three days
- The Qatar University Career Fair, sponsored by RasGas, where student delegates had the opportunity to apply directly online at the RasGas booth for summer
internships, scholarships and graduate recruitment opportunities
- The Higher Education Institute annual student meeting in London, attended by more than 100 sponsored Qatari students
