Doha, Qatar – 5 July, 2012: RasGas Company Limited’s (RasGas) Operations Group recently organised an environmental lecture titled “Green Talk” for trainees to mark World Environment Day. The interactive lecture at Ras Laffan was attended by 30 trainees from the Process and Maintenance departments of RasGas’ Operations Group.
Hassan Ibrahim, environmental affairs manager in the Safety, Health and Environment Group, said the initiative was intended to encourage budding employees of the Operations Group to have a strong commitment to the environment. He said the ‘Green Talk’ was attended by the newly-recruited trainees undergoing training in the Competency Assurance and Training (CAT) of the Operations Business Department.
“Apart from our regular training schedules, which are designed to impart technical education on our work, we need to get updates on our corporate social responsibilities too, especially our duties towards the environment we live and work,” said trainee Abdulla Hazeem al-Sada.
He said the ‘Green Talk’ will not only contribute towards increasing the trainees’ environmental awareness but also enlighten them about RasGas’ green initiatives. The audio-visual lecture conducted by the experts in the RasGas Environmental Department also included a presentation on the RasGas’ coral relocation project. The lecturers explained the theme of this year’s World Environment Day, which was “Green economy- does it include you?”
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) defines green economy as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. The UNEP-led Green Economy Initiative, launched in late 2008, provides a comprehensive and practical working mechanism, through analysis and policy support for “investing in green sectors and greening environmental unfriendly sectors”.
RasGas implements a comprehensive and integrated management system to control the safety, health and environmental risks inherent in its business. Known as RasGas Elements for Excellence, it provides a framework of policies, procedures and continuous improvement processes that enables RasGas to maximise the safety and welfare of people, property and the environment.
