Doha, Qatar – 21 May, 2013: RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) today donated QR1.4 million to the Qatar Paralympic Committee (QPC) and the Qatar Cultural and Social Centre for the Deaf (QCSCD). The funds were raised during the Company's 8th annual Charity Gala Dinner and related golf tournament which took place earlier this year. The donations are a result of the generosity of RasGas' shareholders, customers, suppliers and employees.
The proceeds were handed over by RasGas Chief Executive Officer, Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi in a formal ceremony held at the Company's headquarters.
"RasGas is very pleased to be able to bring together so many members of our community to provide support to deserving charitable causes in Qatar. Our annual Charity Gala dinner is a main contributor to the Company's charity fund, Sunduk Al Kheir and is integral to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme," said Al Mohannadi.
Dr Hassan Al Ansari, Secretary General of QPC, and Ali Obeid Al Sanari, Chairman of QCSCD, attended on behalf of their respective organisations.
Dr Al Ansari noted that the donations will be channelled towards upgrading facilities and funding special needs initiatives. "Basketball is a very popular sport among people with special needs at QPC as it brings them together. We are therefore considering forming a basketball team and this requires having special equipment customised to each of our players. I appreciate and commend RasGas' contribution and support for QPC," he said.
Al Sanari said the money will help achieve the QCSCD's goals and financing initiatives that would not have otherwise been possible. "My dream is to develop an Arabic and English dictionary about Qatar for the deaf. As QCSCD, our role is to create channels of communication with the community and I am very pleased to see RasGas' support us in our efforts," he said.
Contributing donors included Nasser Al Hajri, ExxonMobil, Merrill Lynch, Chiyoda Almana, NIGP, JGC Corporation, Doha Golf Club, Qatar Airways, Itochu, Chart Industries, Qatar National Bank, Maersk, Invensys, Consolidated Contractors Company, Baker Hughes, LNG Japan, Schlumberger, Al Ahed Trading, Pan Maritime Energy Services, The Information Store, Al Mana Group, Citibank, Ensco, Deloitte & Touche, Wilhelsmen Ship Services, Nakilat, Al Misnad Manpower Services, Iwatani Corporation, Construction Development Company, Petrotec, Pronav Ship Management, Red Spider, Repsol and LNG Holdings.
"These donations are a true demonstration of corporate citizenship which RasGas' shareholders, customers, suppliers and employees share. I have no doubt that our relationships have been enriched by these generous charitable contributions," added Al Mohannadi.
