Our campaign aims to reflect this transformative effect

At the turn of the 21st century, the term ‘liquefied natural gas’ (LNG) was still not widely known. But this situation is changing fast: by 2006 Qatar will have brought this very efficient fuel to homes and businesses around the world, from Asia to Europe and North America.

The peoples of these countries are now aware that LNG is a strategic, clean energy source that powers their countries’ economies and helps to improve their environment. Each drop of LNG consumed in a European power station, for example, emits a significantly lower amount of potentially damaging greenhouse gases than would otherwise be released into the atmosphere by the equivalent burning of coal. In a world looking to reduce its impact on climate change, this is an immense benefit.

It is also the power at the heart of the RasGas expression, the energy to transform.

In Qatar, the home of RasGas, this transformative power has had another far-reaching effect: the very real transformation of the country’s healthcare and education systems, its environment and its economy. Every drop of LNG that is shipped to another country has a lasting and sustainable effect on the lives of the people of Qatar.

Meanwhile, the significance of Qatar’s energy resources and of the part played by RasGas in extracting and distributing those resources continues to grow. Industry experts estimate that by 2010 Qatar will supply 30 per cent of the world’s LNG, of which RasGas will ship around half. For a company established only in 1993, this is an astonishing statistic and a great achievement. But the company’s achievements are about much more than numbers. RasGas, its partners and its employees also nurture and take very seriously a deep sense of corporate citizenship and social responsibility.

Under the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, RasGas has developed something very special: an ‘energy to transform’ that can bring long-lasting benefits to people, businesses and countries around the world.
