RasGas demonstrates industry expertise at IPTC
RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) further enhanced its reputation as a world leading energy supplier this week by fully participating in the 2009 International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) held in Doha, Qatar.
Under the theme, "World Energy Challenges: Endurance and Commitment", the IPTC this year focused on the new challenges of the global economic conditions and how these affect the oil and gas industry. A delegation of over 20 representatives from RasGas delivered a variety of presentations to the many attending industry experts from around the world. Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas Managing Director-CEO co-chaired the panel session 'Global Gas Outlook - New Gas Chains'. In his panel address Al Mohannadi emphasised the importance of natural gas to meet the challenges as world economies recover. "Natural gas is not only an efficient fuel source, but also has important environmental advantages since it produces fewer emissions than other fossil fuels. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies can be used to manage regional imbalances, and supply energy to those markets that have the greatest need for energy. Producers will need to continue to develop local production as well as imports by pipeline and LNG tankers in order to support the long term growth of natural gas demand in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America."Al Mohannadi said.
Also speaking at the conference was Nafez Bseiso, RasGas' Technical Group Manager, who delivered a presentation during the "Integration Business, People, Technology" session. His presentation, titled, "Delivering World Class Completions in the North Field through Collaboration and Technology Development" was one of the highlights of the conference and received one of the largest audiences. RasGas has been a Technology leader on the development and application of new Technology throughout its LNG value chain which added significant contribution to reliability, deliverability and cost. The presentation was co-authored by Marco Rasi, Engineering Vice President of ExxonMobil Upstream Research.
The 2009 IPTC represents one of the most comprehensive, multidisciplinary and technically focused programmes to date. Over three days it includes an executive plenary session, four high-profile panel sessions and more than 50 technical sessions, offering a high level of discussion on upstream and midstream oil and gas issues.
